Thursday 31st May: Today everyone went out on The Swan. The younger ones went first for a short trip and then the older ones took a picnic lunch and went to have a longer sail.
Wednesday 30th May: Today everyone went to Brekon Beach in Cullivoe for an environmental education day with ShEEP. Cullivoe School and the mid primary class from Mid Yell School went as well. Everyone did 3 different activities. We had a picnic on the beach.
Tuesday 29th May: This afternoon Alistair Carmicael, our MP, dropped into school to chat to the children who go to Burravoe Youth Club about the new mural they have painted and put on the bus shelter. The sign tells visitors about the attractions they can go to in Burravoe.
Thursday 24th May: Today P7 went to Unst to compete in the Unst v Yell football and netball matches.
This afternoon the rest of the children went on a plant hunt for Great Plant Hunt Week; they found lots from the plant hunt list and others too.
Thursday 17th May: This afternoon we went to Yell Sports Day. All of the Yell P7s had helped to organise it with Mr Williamson as part of their transition activities. They were the team leaders. They had made some great flags for the opening ceremony! The weather was poor so we had to do everything indoors but everyone still tried really hard to do their best and had fun!
Wednesday 16th May: Today P7 went to Mid Yell for the final of their transition days in the primary schools. They spent time finalising their plans for Sports Day and making their team flags. In the afternoon they thought about some of the questions they want answered before they go into S1.
Friday 11th May: This term we are learning about the body. This week we have been finding out about the heart and blood. This afternoon we listened to each other's heartbeats with stethescopes and counted how many beats there were a minute.
Thursday 10th May: Today the weather seemed a bit warmer than lately so we decided to plant some seeds outside. We planted carrots and chard.
Wednesday 9th May: Today we had a record number of hits on our blog - we had 349 visitors! We are quadblogging with schools in Denver, near Hanging Rock and Barnsley. These are pictures of the pupils in Denver researching about us using our blog and website. They are putting their findings into a google doc so we can work online to help them edit it.
This term we are doing 3D art; at the moment we are making heads using papier mache.
Friday 4th May: Today we went on a school trip to The South Mainland. We had to leave school before 8am! Although it is meant to be summer it was snowing as we left! In the morning we went to Dunrossness School as they had invited us to join them for their Sustainable Development Education Day. We had chosen 2 differernt workshops each to do. Amongst the choices were tree planting, pond dipping, global education, learning about tiger habitats and about puffins.
When we left Dunrossness we went to Jarlshof; the custodian was very kind and let us eat our picnic in the exhibition centre because by this time it was snowing again! We had a look around the exhibition and tried grinding some flour before we went outside onto the site - it was a bit windy and snowy but it was still fun looking inside the wheelhouses.
We left Jarlshof and went on to the Crofthouse Museum at Boddam to look inside the restored croft house. We could see the old box beds. There was a peat fire as well so we stood in front of it for a while!
On our way home we stopped at Frankie's to have our tea.
We got the 6pm ferry home and most people looked quite tired by then!
Tuesday 1st May: This morning Linda came to give the older ones their second golf lesson; this week the weather was better so they could go outside.
