June 2008
Monday 30th June: This morning P6 finished the newsletter they have been putting together for the school's 40th birthday celebrations. If you would like to read it there is a link on our home page. This afternoon we finished our "Sweetie People versus Gorilla Guy" video which we have been making to show at our concert on Friday. We have written the play and the songs, made the puppets for the play and then filmed it ourselves; everyone has worked very hard to do it and we hope the audience like it! It is nearly 15 minutes long so its too big to put on the website.
Friday 27th June: As part of our science lessons and our topic on transport, we have been thinking about forces. Today we tried ways of making a toy man drop more slowly from a height. We were careful to drop 2 identical men at the same time and from the same height so that we could make a fair test to see if one came down more slowly.

Tuesday 24th June: Today Mr Ashley-Smith came to do cycling with us. Well done to Sophie who passed her cycle training test! He took the peerie ones into the playground to practise safe cycling and then took some of P6 out for a bike ride.

In science we had a challenge; we made boats out of tinfoil (we all had the same sized piece) and then tried to see how many pennies we could put in before they sank. Ross managed 84.
Thursday 19th June: This morning Jennifer took Miss Wiseman's pupils to Mid Yell to see the Danish group Faerd perform. This was funded by YMI.

In the evening P6 went to the Town Hall in Lerwick to see Chroma perform.
Wednesday 18th June: Today we had a music workshop with Chroma: it was based around Stravinsky's Petrouchka and was funded by YMI.
We hosted the event in Burravoe Hall and were joined by Cullivoe School. We were really pleased that some of the children who will be starting school with us in August were also able to come in the afternoon. It was a hugely successful day which everyone enjoyed. We are very lucky to have a staff who willingly turn their hands to anything on days like today!
