December 2013

Friday 19th December. We had a lovely last day! We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Wednesday 18th December: Today was Miss Anderson's last day with us. We are very sorry that she is leaving and wish her all the best with her new class in Aberdeenshire.

In the afternoon we had a Glowmeet with Kirkton of Largo School: we used the new Glowmeet for the first time and it went very well - now Miss Anderson knows how to use it maybe we can "meet" her new class!
Monday 16th December: This evening we had our School Concert. Everyone played and sang beautifully; well done! Thank you to everyone who came and supported us. The collection for the Save the Children Typhoon Haiyan Appeal was £90.
Friday 13th December: We are taking part in a Christmas tree decoration exchange with some other schools in Scotland; today we were sent a photo of one of our decorations on the tree of the P1-P3 class in Kirkton of Largo School. You can see more about the exchange here.

Wednesday 11th December: This morning we were surprised to get a phone call telling us to go outside and look at a helicopter which had landed in the park near to school. We see lots of helicopters flying over us every day but we've never had one land near us! A bit later we were able to see it take off and leave.

In the afternoon Pauline Walsh brought back the felt balls we did with her last week; they looked brilliant!

Tuesday 10th December: Today we had a school trip to learn more for our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle project. We went to the Energy Recovery Plant, the recycling centre and the landfill site. After lunch we went to see Shetland Heat Energy and Power Ltd (the Lerwick District Heating Scheme). You can read more about this on the children's blog.

Friday 6th December: Today all the schools in Shetland except one were closed because of the snow and the very strong winds.
Thursday 5th December: Today we couldn't start school until 10.30am because we had a power cut caused by the snow! Some people couldn't come to school because there was no school transport.
Wednesday 4th December: This afternoon Pauline Walsh came to do felting with us. She showed us how to decorate felt balls. She took our finished ones home to put them in the washing machine.

Tuesday 3rd December: Film Club UK are very pleased that we are the first school in Shetland to join them and start our own film club: they have written about us on their website.
