December 2010

Wednesday 22nd December: Today is the last day of term. We finished our calendars, opened our cards, had a fantastic Christmas lunch cooked by Elsie, opened all our presents from under the tree and watched Jock and the Beanstalk - a good day!

Tuesday 21st December: St Clair's School in Dunedin in New Zealand put up a blog post about their blog dance at their end of year concert. We enjoyed watching it and seeing ourselves in the background doing our bit of the dance!
We have been feeding the birds every day; we gets lots of visitors now because of the snow.

Monday 20th December: This evening we had our concert in St Colman's Kirk; it was a bit cold and snowy but everyone managed to get back to school and we were pleased so many people came to the Kirk to watch us. We had written a play called Santa and the Storyteller. There were some musical items afterwards. We had missed a few rehearsals because of the snow but everyone tried really hard and did very well. We had a collection in the Kirk for Save the Children and can send them £65. Mia played the keyboard in the Kirk, this is a recording of the piece she played.
Thursday 16th/Friday 17th December: All Shetland schools were closed for 2 days because of the snow but everyone at Burravoe worked hard at home on their snow tasks - thanks again to everyone at home who helps them with these!
Wednesday 15th December: Today we designed and started to make musical instruments.

Tuesday 14th December: The younger children are learning about the 5 senses in science. Today they were thinking about touch; Jennifer hid some things in a box and everyone had to guess what they were by feeling them and then look to see if they were right!

Friday 10th December: There was a very rapid thaw in the night so everyone could get to school today as the school transport was able to run for the first time this week! This morning Mike McDonnell came to talk to us about the intergenerational project we are doing with the Old Haa- he brought us the audio equipment we are borrowing to use next term to interview people in the community. We will be able to link this with our Crofting Connections project.
Thursday 9th December: We had a lot of snow in the night again which meant that all schools in Shetland were shut again today. Everyone worked hard doing the work that was put up on Glow and thanks again to all the parents who helped!
Friday 3rd December: We put up and decorated the Christmas tree in After School club today.
Wednesday 1st December: Today we started thinking about our Christmas play; we wrote it last year and then didn't perform it because of the snow; we did some updating and recasting. We practised and then made a video of our dance to send to New Zealand this afternoon; everyone worked really hard and did a great job.
