December 2008
Friday 19th December: Today is the last day of term. In the morning we opened the post box and P7 sorted and delivered our Christmas cards.

After we had opened cards we sat down to the delicious Christmas dinner which Elsie had cooked for us. Marina and Margaret came and had lunch with us too.

After lunch we opened our presents from under the tree. We had a good day!
Monday 15th December: This evening we performed our version of the Grumpy Innkeeper in St Colman's Kirk. All the children were fantastic and we are all very proud of them. At the end, some of our instrumental students performed their Christmas pieces. The children decided that they would like the collection to go to the Shetland CLAN appeal; we raised £130, thank you very much to everyone who donated. Afterwards there were refreshments in the school and our guests were able to watch slideshows of some of the things we have been doing recently.
Some pictures of us waiting to go to the Kirk to perform.

Wednesday 10th December: Today Steven Brown, who is the Chair of our Parent Council, arranged for P3-P7 from our school and from Cullivoe School to go to the Sullom Voe oil terminal. We were able to see the fire engine and learn about fire safety and in the afternoon learned about pollution control. We were given lunch in the canteen and enjoyed watching the trays of used dishes going around on a conveyor belt! We would like to thank everyone who helped organise such a great day for us.

Tuesday 9th December: Today we had our first Glow meet video conference with another school. P3 and P4 at Elmvale Primary School in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, are doing a project about island life and wanted to hear some first hand experiences. It was a great opportunity for us to talk to people that we would never normally meet. Katie Barrowman, a Glow development worker, also joined in from another venue (we forgot to ask where but realised that it doesn't matter!). We are planning to Glow meet with them again in the summer when we can ask them about farming in their area.

Friday 5th December: Today P4 and P5 organised a toys and books sale for The Blue Peter Appeal; Mission Nutrition. They made £63.76! Well done to them and thanks to everyone who donated and bought things.
We have put up our Christmas tree. Marina, our knitting instructor, has knitted us a new angel to go on the top of the tree.
Wednesday 3rd December: Today P7 showed us all the presentation they had made about the Water Cycle. They did everything themselves from the planning to the sharing and did it all to a timescale. They did an excellent job.
