April 2009
Glow newsletter - we get a mention in the April edition of the Glow newsletter; you can also read about the Percy the Puffin event with which we joined.
Wednesday 29th April: Today we went to the Garrison Theatre to see Hotel Marionette, a puppet play. Afterwards we went to the Museum Art Gallery and then we went for a picnic in the playpark.
Tuesday 28th April: This morning we did cycling again and then we planted some flower and vegetable seeds in pots. Here are the younger ones with their sunflower seeds. It was such a lovely day that, at lunchtime, we walked down to the Old Haa to see the new art exhibition.
Friday 24th April: P1 and P2 went to the Leisure Centre in Mid Yell to join with all the other Yell P1s and P2s and the Nursery children in an activity morning.
Wednesday 22nd April: This morning Mr Williamson, our PE teacher came to visit us. Whilst he was here we talked about our new Travelling Green packs; we decided that as some people can't walk to school we would do more walks at lunchtimes. It was such a lovely day that we started today and had a walk to the beach.

This afternoon we carried on with our entries for the art competition for the centenary of the Shetland Cattle Herd Society.

Tuesday 21st April: This morning, Linda Thomson, our Active Schools Co-ordinator, came to start cycle safety lessons. Later Elaine Skinley, the Road Safety Officer, came to bring our new wet weather outfits and our Travelling Green packs to encourage us to walk and cycle to school.
Monday 20th April: This afternoon, Maria Millar came with Miss Dobson and introduced us to the Evergreen Dialect Singing pack which she has put together using Scottish Arts Council YMI funding. We tried some of the songs and Miss Dobson is going to teach us some more.
Tuesday 14th April: Today we made a start on preparing the garden for Spring planting. We dug up the last of the carrots and tatties from last year.
Monday 13th April: We have a final total for the P7 fish and chip night - £854.57 - thanks again to everyone for helping raise such a fantastic sum!
